#7: Be flexible

Charmonix, France

First of all, was I planning on going here? Nope. But on my way to Zermatt, I heard one of the announcements on the train that the next stop was a the change to Charmonix. I quickly googled to see how much of a detour it would be and seeing it was only a 3 hour detour, decided I must go.

The one day I was planning to be there was absolutely incredible! I found this amazing train to take up a mountain, which I got to do a beautiful hike.

Plan was to leave early in the morning the following day for Zermatt and do my favorite hike there. So bright eyed and bushy tailed I headed out for the first train of the day to get me to my destination so I would have the whole day there.

The time passed when the train was supposed to arrive yet… no train. Well that’s odd I thought, I’ll just wait for the next one. After an hour of waiting at the train station, incredibly confused, I headed back to my hotel to talk to the receptionist there. I checked the time tables and everything showed that they should be running as normal….

Turns out the exact train i needed to take stopped running that day…. Just that one day.

But it was a gorgeous and clear day, so I decided that since I was there, I would go up to the top of Aiguille du Midi. And well, the pictures speak for themselves. Absolute breathtaking beauty. What an amazing treat that I would have missed out on if I had left as planned!

Now think about work: this has so many applications, so let’s break down a few:

- Trying to do something one way and having no luck? Don’t be so tied to your ideas that you get nowhere!

- Trying to communicate with someone one way and not getting the results you desire? Try putting yourself In their shoes and trying to adapt to their communication style!

- Frustrated with someone? Maybe you need to learn a little more about them to understand why they are the way they are (plug for Working Genius 😄) and you can have a little more grace for them!
