#2: It’s okay to turn around... and sometimes you really should

Schynige Platte - First, Switzerland, 2021

I decided that even though the forecast was calling for the clouds to roll in, that the weather would look favorably on me and allow those pesky clouds to float away so I could see beautiful views.

So I kept going..

And going…

and going..

And I could see less..

And less..

And less..

In snow.

By myself.

Imagine, barely being able to see 5 feet in front of you and the entire path just looking like white nothingness and trying to follow AllTrails on your phone. And if you can't imagine it, just take a look at the pictures below... It was not my favorite hike to say the least.

At 1 mile I thought about going back, 2 miles, 3 miles and finally at 6 miles, I started to go in circles, sliding off the trail multiple times because I couldn’t see it and panicking because I was going to die out here in this snow and I didn’t even get to see beautiful things!

What a stupid way to die!

Now I thought the trail was 8 miles total point to point but at 7.3 miles I finally saw three brave human beings who chatted with me and informed me that I “only” had a few more miles to go. 3 more miles?! Are you kidding me?!

I finally got to the end of the hike that was supposed to have food and they were basically out. So drenched, exhausted and freezing, I immediately took a gondola down and took the train home defeated and ready to sleep.

Moral of the story? I should have given up at 1 mile, taken the train back down and just enjoyed my time in the lovely town of Grindelwald.

Now think about work: Are there things that you are just gritting your teeth and pushing through for months, years maybe?

Is it dealing with your boss?

Your co-workers?

The job itself?

If so, maybe it’s time to think about calling it quits!

Without shame, without guilt and without letting others dictate what is best for you.

There is a time for everything, including quitting something (maybe even something that sounds good) in order to get something better.

Ps. In case you were wondering, it's a gorgeous place to visit when you can actually see (see pictures below) :D
